The Council has published further details on its proposals for the borough's library service.

The 'Library Service Strategic Review Strategy 2014 Consultation' document is available online.

The current Bexley Library Service costs around £5.5m a year. The proposals aim to identify savings that will contribute to the more than £33m in savings the Council needs to find over the next few years. You can read more about this online at www.bexley.gov.uk/strategy2014

The proposals that have been drawn up include -

Shared services: Working with other councils to save money.
Changes to opening hours: Affecting late night opening of the libraries.
Hiring out space: To generate extra income.
Mobile libraries: Reducing the number of vehicles and generating extra income.
Library service management: Including the possibility of a not-for-profit trust.
Community management: For some several smaller libraries.

Please join the conversation about the proposals on ‘Bexley Talks’.

To submit your views on the proposals to the Council please either email libraries.els@bexley.gov.uk or visit any local library and fill in a library review comments form by 18 February.

The deadline for comments on all other Strategy 2014 proposals is 31 January. You can submit your comments by completing the survey at www.bexley.gov.uk/strategy2014, or by writing to Strategy 2014 Feedback, Bexley Civic Offices, Broadway, Bexleyheath DA6 7LB.
