The next Census will take place on 27 March. From early March, you should all receive an A4 size envelope with a purple logo and big thick purple border through your letterbox. This is your census form which will ask you a few questions about yourself and the people you live with. You can either complete and return your form in the pre-paid envelope or, for the first time ever, complete on-line. Either way, you must do it.

Why?
  • Like all local authorities in England and Wales, we rely on Census figures to bid for  funding from Central Government. So even if the census count is just a few households short, it could make a very real difference to the money we receive and people's lives.
  • If we have an accurate picture of the people living in Bexley we can plan  future services to meets needs and requirements - schools, hospitals, childcare, transport and lots more....
  • Unlock history - In a hundred years from now, a copy of your census questionnaire will go public and your future generations will be able to research the history of the family – so make sure you have your spot on the 'family tree'.

Help is available

We do not want anyone to be missed so there is a range of help available. Log onto www.census.gov.uk, call 0300 0201 101 or bring your questionnaire to one of our completion events where someone will be available to help you – a list of the events is available in your copy of the Bexley Magazine and online at http://www.bexley.gov.uk/census2011

We responded to Ant1974 personally last week but please see the offical advice from the Office of National Statistics. As the householder you need to ensure that everyone is listed in the household form and request an individual form for the person refusing to complete the form. This can then be annotated on the household form and the person concerned should complete the I form, if they choose not to they will then become responsible for that form and liable to prosecution. As a householder you have met your obligation by completing the HH form and listing all residents.
